From Roots to Fruits

"Roots" - Everybody has them. Roots are what keeps us connected to our source - and fruits are what good roots will eventually bear.  This week on Radio Free Nachlaot we get back to our roots - the roots of radio.

Lorelai is back with "Morning Dew for the Morning Jew" on Mondays, starting at 8am Jerusalem time - she'll dig down into the roots and bring up the fruits (starting as always with Rebbe Nachman's Tikkun haKlali and continuing with her evocative musical chulent mix that takes a musical "snapshot" of the energy of the moment and creates an emotional musical journey and as she says, "hopefully, a cathartic experience!"

Monday Afternoon - "Israeli Soul" features the best of our Hebrew-language musical programming Today on Israeli Soul afternoon starting at 1pm Jerusalem time we'll be hearing music from  Moshe Averic, Moshe Chouraki, Lazer Brody, Knesiyat haSechel, "Jewish Jazz Genius" John Zorn, Soul Farm, Y-Love, Aryeh Kunsler, Matisyahu, and the Kabbalah Dream Orchestra.

Monday Night at 8pm we'll feature our "Not for Drag Queens Only Show Tunes Show" - the best of Broadway (or Hollywood) musicals. Tonight (kind of "The Best of Both Worlds") - the audio soundtrack of FESTIVAL EXPRESS (always wonderful!)

Tuesday - our DJ Maya is back from her trip to the U.S., and bringing us musical treats for the kick-off of The New Season at 11am, and "One Song World" founder Jonty Zweibner joins us for the HOMEGROWN HOUR at 7pm, followed by Steve Levine's "That's Rock n' Roll" Show at 9pm.

Wednesday we're debuting a new show AND a new DJ! - BRAINWAVES with Brian Blum. Brainwaves is an eclectic rock music program spanning multiple genres and decades. Each two-hour sonic adventure might go from modern indie pop rock (Snow Patrol, Fountains of Wayne), to classic 70s progressive (Peter Gabriel-era Genesis), to 80s new wave (A Flock of Seagulls) and 80s jangly pop (early REM, Marshall Crenshaw), to melodic grunge (Smashing Pumpkins), along with a healthy dose of Israeli rock (Aviv Gefen, Erez Lev Ari). Brainwaves is hosted by Jerusalem music enthusiast Brian Blum, back on the air after a 28-year hiatus - don't miss his return to the (virtual) airwaves on Wednesday at 7pm!

Immediately following Brian's debut show, Maya is back at 9pm Wednesday for her "Music of the Night" Show - let's see how Brian's Indie sensibilities and Maya's hard-core rock goddess vibes fit, back-to-back!

That's how the week starts. Let's see what else develops - and if you've got songs you'd like to share with us, bands you'd like to turn us on to, or programming ideas you think we'd be interested in - don't forget, you can always email us! radiofreenachlaot@gmail.com - we love to hear from you!

So - let's get rooty and fruity together this week. It's a new season, a new month is almost upon us (Elul, time for spiritual, emotional, physical and maybe even musical detox!) and we've got a whole lotta radio going on - 24/6, with love from us to you.
