Shabbos is Coming, Shavuos is Coming - Let's Go Get Our Torah!

It's about to be a 2-day holiday in Israel, and a 3-day holiday outside of Israel - Shabbos Parshas BaMidbar (we're starting Book 4 of the 5 Books of Moses of the Torah this Shabbat!) PLUS, following exactly when Shabbos stops and the next day begins - the holiday of SHAVUOS, the commemoration of when we as "Am Yisrael" - the People of Israel - with one heart and one mind accepted the Torah from HaShem on Mt. Sinai.

Tonight - Shabbat. We'll count the LAST of the Sefirat haOmer - "Malchut Sheb'b'Malchut" - and spend Shabbat with some sense of satisfaction that we've completed the entire Sefirat haOmer period, in anticipation of what comes next. Now that we've rectified all the levels from Chessed to Malchut, it's time to receive the Torah, together!

Shavuos runs from Saturday night to Sunday night - we'll be off the air until Sunday a bit after 9pm Israel time. For those of you in Chutz l'Eretz who keep TWO days of Yom Tov - good luck with that! We suggest you come home to the Land of Israel and keep ONE day with us - one long day because it's going to be a day without sleep - we're staying up all night learning Torah - in the morning we'll read Megillat Ruth and then sit down to a meal full of dairy products (yes we Jewish people are nothing if not obsessed with food symbolism!) and then maybe we'll get a nap on Sunday afternoon!

Chag Sameach everybody far and near - may you receive the Torah exactly as you're supposed to, at the level you need to receive it at, may it be SWEET, and may this year be a year of personal and spiritual growth for each and every one of us!

See ya at Sinai! :)

It's Bob Dylan's 71st Birthday on Radio Free Nachlaot!

Yom Huledet Samach - Happy Birthday Mr. Robert Zimmerman, you're 71 years forever young today! That's right, it's Bob Dylan's 71st Birthday, and l'kavod the Jewish Gemini Singer/Songwriter who defined our generation and then went on to re-define it, over and over again, it's going to be All Bob, All Day Long .... don't miss BOBFEST 5772 - May 24th 2012.

Please note that Bob Dylan was actually born on the 28th of Iyar in the year 5701, (9:05pm May 24th, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota) which was that year the 43rd Day of the Omer - Chessed Sheb'b'Malchut. It makes so much sense - and little did he know (or maybe he did) that only 26 years later that same day of Chessed Sheb'b'Malchut would become the day Jerusalem was liberated in the 1967 "6-Day War" - again, on Chessed Sheb'b'Malchut.

Chessed is loving-kindness, and Malchut is the Kingdom, it's royalty, it's bringing everything down from heaven to manifest on earth - like Yom Yerushalyim, like Shmuel HaNavi (Samuel the Prophet who was also born on the 28th of Iyar), Bob is (in the words of Rabbi Chaim Richman) "a great manifestation of Chessed Sheb'b'Malchut."

Some of what we'll be hearing today includes:

9am - 10:40am - Bob Dylan's "Live 75," the Rolling Thunder Revue

11am - 1pm - on the Final Vinyl Show, the 3 albums that appear in the Rolling Stone Top 50 Albums of all time - #4 of the Top 50: "Highway 61 Revisited" (1965), Number 9 of the Top 50: "Blonde on Blonde" (1966), and Number 16 of the Top 50: "Blood on the Tracks" (1975).

2pm - 4:15pm - The All-Star 30th Anniversary Concert - A Tribute to Bob Dylan recorded in 1993 and featuring Bob Dylan tribute cover songs by such luminaries as John Cougar Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, Stevie Wonder, Lou Reed, Eddie Vedder, Tracie Chapman, June Carter Cash, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Johnny Winter, Ronnie Wood, Ritchie Havens, The Clancy Brothers, Mary Chapan Carpenter, Roseanne Cash, Shawn Colvin, Neil Young, Chrissie Hynde, Eric Clapton, The O'Jays, The Band, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roger McGuinn and more.

4:15pm - 7:15pm - RABBI CHAIM RICHMAN'S BOB DYLAN BIRTHDAY SPECIAL SHOW - recorded live at Radio Free Nachlaot last year on Bob's 70th birthday, this show is "Evergreen" as well as ever-fresh, and features our beloved Rabbi Chaim Richman whose dearest wish is to walk upon the Temple Mount with Bob Dylan playing the harmonica together with him, spinning 3 hours of his favorite Dylan tunes with much narration and a Rashi-like commentary upon each and every song. Don't miss it!!!

All times are Jerusalem times, please calculate for your time zone - and stay with us today for BOBFEST 5772, and may G*d bless and keep us always, may our feet always be swift, may we have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift, may we build a ladder to the sky and climb on every rung, and may each and every one of us stay forever young!
