Are you ready to Cook for Shabbos?

Well, you know I am! Improved sounds all around - not just on the microphones, but also in the headphones -- hey, we even sound better on our little computer speakers, and why? 'Cause we waited for the man, and he fixed the darn thing.

So now all that's left is to provide you with the soundtrack for your thursday night, or as we used to say, ROCK YOU ALL NIGHT LONG!

Are We Slip-Sliding Away or Are We On The Verge of A Musical Healing?

What a treat to have Dr. Liebe Schulman in-studio with us live today at 12 noon! Not only is Liebe a "Holy Healer," she's also (amongst too many other things to mention here) an accomplished recording artist whose lifelong love affair with the banjo is accredited with saving her life upon multiple occasions.

Today on "Holy Healing" we discussed SAD (Seasonal Affectation Disorder) which is what happens to over 10% of the population of any given climate (with the notable exception of Iceland where they ingest massive amounts of Omega 3-rich fish) when the days start to get dark early.

What can you do? Exercise, eat a lot of Omega 3-rich fish like Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines, get a full-spectrum light box (or at least a light bulb), go outside into the sunshine as much as you can - and of course - LISTEN TO BANJO MUSIC. It's a scientific fact that you can't be sad while listening to banjo music! And Dr. Liebe reminds us that when we get sore from too much yoga or exercise, ARNICA is the answer (sub-lingual tablets under the tongue or Arnica creme).

We've had an exciting day so far and much of it was off-radio ... a really wonderful friend came to Steve's "Undisclosed Studio B" location this morning to tweak, tune & adjust our audio settings to help get the snap, crackle, pop out of the mics there - and from what we heard, the effects are MAHHHHVALOUS, darling ... we'll know more later tonight when Steve takes back the stream for his "Cooking for Shabbos" show...
... but so much going on before that! We also interviewed Tzedakah Adventurer Arnie Draiman which we'll be playing our recording of today and in days to come (and you can listen to it on our DOWNLOAD PAGE, oh yes you can!) Arnie is the head of Draiman Consulting and a real pro - get to know him and his work, he's one of the real "make a difference" people here in the Holy Land!

Still Crazy After All These Years

American-Jewish Singer/Songwriter Icon Paul Simon is 69 years old today! No one of a certain age (and even younger, if the truth be told) has been untouched by Paul Simon's work from the 1960's until the present day.

As the other half of Simon & Garfunkle he brought beauty (of course, he's a Libra!) and grace into the sometimes rough-edged world of folk music and took "folk" to a whole new level and beyond.

As a solo artist he brought humor, pathos and insight into the rock world - he was one of the first mainstream (white-skinned) superstars to support and record what we now call "World Music" when he started exploring the music of South Africa with his album "Graceland" and Brazilian sounds with "Rhythm of the Saints."

The winner of 13 Grammys including the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award as well as an inductee (2001) into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Paul Simon was the first recipient (2007) of the Library of Congress's Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

But hey - despite all the honors and fame, Paul Simon is still crazy after all these years. We love him like a rock. And we're going to play a lot of his music today.

Master of Wars

"HaShem, Master of Wars is His Name..."

When HKBH is on our side we know we're in the hands of the true Master of Wars. He teaches our hands to war and our fingers to fight - how so? With the bowstrings of a harp, with fingers on ivory keys, with drum and timbrel and electric guitar - we triumph over our enemies - primarily the internal ones - via music of praise and passion.

Therefore ... We're starting our evening at 7:15pm with some Bob Marley. "One Love Peace Concert," (1978) followed by "Chant Down Babylon" (1999). No one fought the entrenched intractable status quo like Bob Marley, and no one did it with more sweetness or passion.

George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Badfinger, Ali Akbar Khan. Just a few blokes getting together with 40,000 of their closest friends to try to save a suffering country. THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH - 9pm Jerusalem Time tonight...they believed music could change the world, and that G-d was on their side...almost 40 years later, we have to reflect...they weren't so very wrong about that, were they?

...and at 10:30pm we'll go to OUR own shtetel ... Anetevka. "Fiddler on the Roof" (the original Broadway recording) will take us back to our ROOTS.

Speaking of roots, at 11:30pm we'll hear the Grateful Dead 100 Years Hall. It don't get more rootsy than that, yo!
