The Masquerade Continues

This week's Adar-appropriate theme of Masks - the ones we wear, the ones we hide behind - continues in our musical lineup today.

We're featuring one artist who is famous for his mutable persona and one who wore a mask which eventually killed her - Bob Dylan and Billie Holiday. Why does one artist thrive on personality fragmentation and another artist die from it? What is it in the ability to morph from one identity to another that ensures the survival of one personality type but sends another into darkness, addiction and death? Both Billie and Bob felt and expressed the pain and angst of their time - only Billie couldn't overcome the times she lived in, or the color of her skin ... and Bob defined the times, changed them, and although some say his career has outlasted his ability to perform, we'll let history write the final chapter on that one ... the proverbial Jury is still, B"H, OUT on that one!

But that's only the beginning! During our "Israeli Soul" Afternoon we're also ripping the masks off of new musical talent, bringing down the highest Torahs for Purim, and delighting you with a fresh new offerings from unexpected sources - you won't want to miss it! Plus, to add to our merriment and kick it up a notch, a special preview of what will eventually (perhaps even as soon as the coming weekend) be a "Sunday Brunch in New York" Show, starring King of the Klezmers - Marty Levitt!
