Tu B'Shvat has come, and now it's Thursday Night!

Yea man, it's Thursday night - where did that come from?
Well, I say "Let the Spring" begin - and you know, HKBH - we will take Spring Rains as well --
But, alas, the winter thaw needs to begin -- time to start thinking about coming out of the cold...breaking any new shells we may have needed for warmth and comfort, time to breathe a fresh breath and say, "hey, I can conquer the world today, in my own special way." "Hey, I can fix myself up today and make the world a bit nicer place to be.
I can say, "Hey, I can listen to Radio Free Nachlaot and see a Tu B'Shvat seder on my favorite radio almost internet TV station, groove to the Grateful Dead while i work in my garden all day, catch R' Ozer giving over Rebbe Nachman, and then "Cook for Shabbos" with Steve into the overnight - all night long" and know that the energy I receive is the energy in turn that I shall give.
We want to help you be yourself.
Music cuts through all the shells and lets the insides come out.
We are here for you. We know you're out there, for us!
Happy Tu B'shvat people.
Happy almost Spring.
Happy Oneness, 'cause when all is said and done, Hakadosh Baruch is the ONE that gets it done -- but remember, he's taking his cues from us - yep, we be the leaders of the band......and you know that we're all just Playing In the Band!!!!

There's Got To Be A Morning-After!

Somehow we survived our first simulcasting science project - despite the no-show sound engineer, the half-dozen pre-show power outages, and several dangerously low blood sugar moments. All that was forgotten when the band began to play - as we like to say, the latest incarnation of "Friends of Mister Levine" - featured Oneg Shemesh, Akiva Gersh, Nadav Sterling and Jonathan Fialka as well as Mr. Levine on keyboards ... thanks to everyone who showed up, watched and listened - and thanks for all your feedback (and no we're not making a double entendre with the word "feedback," it was more of a distortion problem than a feedback problem!).

What did we learn?

One: Send a taxi for the sound guy, don't just assume he'll show up!

Two: Lorelai needs a wife, she realized that when The Wives showed up (cute babies in tow) with warm food for their hard-working husbands.
Any wife will do, she's not a picky eater. Just someone to bring her food!

Three: IT'S THE MUSIC, STUPID! When everything is said and done, it's the music that brings us together and makes us go through these insane gyrations, reconfigurations, excitations ... and we mamash made some beautiful music together last night!

Thanks for listening - it's only going to get better and better!

Today on Radio Free Nachlaot's "Israeli Soul" Afternoon we'll feature a pre-Purim set (after all, Purim is coming! Purim is coming!) with Yerachmael Ziegler and Gavriel Saks, "Five For Purim" from Aaron Razel, joyful sounds from Aleyodia, music from Akiva Gersh's new album, Oneg Shemesh and the rollicking sounds of Sasson.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

THAT'S WHY WE CALL IT A SCIENCE PROJECT!

Bear with us folks ... the science project continues!

Sunday Night Live - the way it's supposed to be!

Yes it's Sunday, Yom Rishon, which means that tonight between 8PM and 11PM Jerusalem Time it will be time for Sunday Night Live - with Steve and Lorelai.
Yes, tonight, Sunday Night Live will be an AUDIO and VIDEO EXTRAVAGANZA -
yup, yup. yup - you'll be able to listen and watch Steve jam with his special friends, Akiva Gersh, Oneg Shemesh, Nadav Serling and Yonatan Fialka.
Live Music from our not yet finished, new Undisclosed Studio G coming at ya!
You don't want to miss this one!!!!!
C Ya on the Radio -- and this time you'll be able to see us!

The Science Project Continues!

Not content to merely rest upon their laurels, the Mad Scientists of Internet Radio (Steve Levine and Lorelai Kude - the parents of Radio Free Nachlaot) are laboring diligently inside of UNDISCLOSED STUDIO "G" - (G is for Gimel, the third letter of the Hebrew alphabet and a clue about our next move) to bring you the latest SCIENCE PROJECT from Radio Free Nachlaot's media laboratory - which we'll be revealing, b'ezrat HaShem, later today! STAY TUNED to find out ... or "Come up to the lab and see what's on the slab!"
I see you shiver with .... anticiPATION!

Shavua Tov

Shabbos has come, and now it's going away --
...but we don't want to let go --
We know the week (especially here in Israel where Yom Rishon is Yom Rishon - Sunday is Day 1 - week day 1, work day 1) is starting -- but how do we make it through? Ok, so the 3rd Sabbath Meal has given us torahs and a little bit of light to put in our pockets, and take with us, but really, is it enough to make it through? So we have Melave Malke - we have songs, and food, and candles and we have a little bit more Shabbos, just a bit more to last us until we light the candles again in just 6 more days...
...and you know, we at Radio Free Nachlaot figure that since we're all in this together we need to do our part. And what is our part? Music is our part...bringing us Shlomo, and all the other songs we play all week long, it's our way of saying with a song in our hearts, and a melody on our lips we will sing our way home, and sing our way through whatever Hashem has in store for us. Dovid Hamelech (who's meal we celebrate every Saturday nigh) prayed for Hashem to put the melodies and the words in his heart so the whole world could sing along. So, what's left to do? Let's sing and dance our way into the week -- Shavua Tov, Shavua Tov, to all of us!

Chodesh Shevat Tov - Time to Get Rooty and Fruity!

It's Rosh Chodesh Shevat, 5771 - the month of the year we celebrate the holiday of Tu b'Shevat, the New Year for Trees. It's still Winter but we begin to feel the sap rising - both within our own bodies and souls, and the world in general. That which has lain dormant for months begins to stir. Feelings long-buried begin to emerge.

The Hebrew month of Shevat's Tribe is Asher - who feeds the rest of the Tribes. Asher's portion of the Land of Israel is so rich and fruitful that it overflows to everyone around him. Our "Inner Asher" at this time begins to connect with the natural urge to give of our bounty and flow with blessings from ourselves to others.

Not surprisingly, the body part associated with Asher is the stomach, and the tikkun (the fixing of an attribute) is eating. No better time to fix your relationship with food than Shevat - and no better place to hang out than Radio Free Nachlaot. We're cooking up musical medicine for the soul, tuneful times to attenuate your spirit, and delicious dance-along songfests to delight your body - which may have been asleep for the last few months ... but guess what? Get up and begin to stretch, move and dance - the sap is rising!

Tu b'Shevat is also when the ETROG we are destined to receive on SUKKOT is born! It's time we start praying in advance for our Etrog - now only in thought, but soon to begin to manifest in form. What are you dreaming about, praying about, hoping for? Everything that is only in your mind now will begin to take shape in reality by the mid-point of this month - so take care to dream the impossible dream - because now is your chance to make your dreams come true.

We can tell the future - just look what's in your hand - We don't stop at nothin', we're just playing in the Band! Play along with us ... right here on Radio Free Nachlaot, your friendly world-wide neighborhood radio station.

Time Passages

Wow, it's 1-1-11 ... or now that Shabbat is over in Jerusalem, it's the 26th of Tevet 5771 ... or now that most of the rest of the World has crossed over midnight of January 1st 2011, on the Universal Business Calendar it's Q111.

It's not so easy living on 3 calendar systems simultaneously! The Hebrew calendar, the Gregorian calendar and the Business calendar ... the mind may boggle sooner or later, but time marches on, and only in one direction ... forward. At least that's what most people think.

And yet even though the clock and calendar tell us one thing, our hearts and memories may indeed tell us another. Some of us yearn for time travel to escape our woes, others yearn for it to revisit the past and repair damages that may have been done.

So we'll tell you a secret - the deepest secret yet the most obvious thing. Everybody knows there's no such thing as "time" in Eternity - in fact, the entire concept of Eternity is a condition of timelessness. "Time" is something HKBH invented to go with "Space" - the time/space continuum, so to speak - where all of Creation dwells - because created things have time/space limitations ... but the soul, now that's another story.

The soul dwells in Eternity where there is no time. To connect to Eternity we go higher and higher, ascending and ascending (like rungs on a ladder) until we reach the arena of Oneness from which our souls descended into these time/space bodies to begin with.

How? Through connection to HaShem, Creator of All, HKBH (HaKadosh Baruch Hu - The Holy One, Blessed Be). Through that connection we transcend time/space. Through that connection, the higher we go the closer we get, the closer we get the more we become one with The One.

So we bless you all and please bless us back that no matter what day it is in your world - Q111, 1-1-11 or 26th of Tevet - that this day and every day you keep going higher and higher, ascending from one rung on the ladder of life to the next one, always growing and moving in a positive direction, closer and closer to HKBH and to each other until we're all truly ONE.

You can be sure we're climbing with you, step by step. 2011 - here we come!
