Rivka Bergson is a 24 year old British- Israeli artist who made aliyah in 2008. From an early age Rivka frequented art galleries in the UK and Europe and explored many art styles from the Old Masters to Aboriginal Art. Inspired by Kandinsky, Titian and other outstanding colourists she developed a passion for colour which informs all her work whatever the style. Other major influences are Chagall and the contemporary Theo Tobiasse - Curiosity and experimentation have led her in many directions. Today she creates work in four main styles - Acrylics, Spin Art, Cubism and Mixed Media.
Along with Fine Art Rivka studied Fashion and Textiles. The combination of these disciplines has produced an exciting and genuinely original Bergson style. Bright acrylics are complemented by collage techniques. Vibrant paintings gain additional substance and texture from the use of carefully selected materials be it cloth or matchsticks.
You will be thrilled by the movement in her Spin Art works. Paint is placed on the canvas board in strategic positions and spun on an electric wheel at controlled speeds creating powerful dynamic effects from meteors hurtling through space to rush hour Manhattan. The prepared canvas is worked with techniques such as scraping, etching, modelling and layering. Thus broad sweeps of colour and movement create the background and context for painstaking attention to detail. It is the juxtaposition of the macro “mechanical” spin art with micro handiwork that creates the intriguing and evocative representations which are characteristic of her work.
Recently Rivka has experimented successfully with the combination of surface sculpture and painting. The addition of 3D effects brings the work to life. These are paintings the viewer is actively encouraged to touch and feel. .Her series “Movement in Art” features arresting character studies in dramatic emotive settings – Rivka explains, “The colours and shapes dance on the canvas in a dynamic and contrasting way creating a movement that captures the viewer.”
Articulating her vision as an artist Rivka states, “For me art has to be tangible; you have to join the artist on her journey from conception to execution. My paintings are all accessible in that they represent recognisable images rather than subjective abstraction. Human beings experience the world through all their senses so for me there is no boundary between touch and sight. The work is also very personal reflecting my feelings and fantasies about the world. I like to paint in a whimsical way.
You are invited to join my colourful world of art and experience the fantasies with me.”

Sunday Night Live featuring the Tehina Tapes
That's right folks, tonight we will feature some more "home-cookin'" with a pre-recorded session from just last Motzoei Shabbos up in Studio Tzadi (for Tzfat) with Benzion Eliyahu Lehrer, Eliezer Dov Goldenberg, and then with Andy "Alps" Alpern and Izzy joining in.
Preparing for the Third Annual, International Temple Mount Awareness Day "Happening" (or extravaganza, if you'd like) takes more time and is more tiring than you think. So tonight, Sunday Night Live will have Steve live in Studio "B" with Lorelai "Live on Tape" and our tentative guest will just have to wait!!!!
I mean, we wouldn't not do a Sunday Night Live show just because we're tired and don't sleep, or, hmmm -
no, I just checked with the Judges and lack of sleep doesn't merit a cancel, just a reconfigure.
....bottom line?
Sunday Night Live
8:00 PM
featuring the Tehina Tapes.
Don't Miss it.
Pita not included.

PURIM IS COMING! PURIM IS COMING! PURIM IS ... HERE!!!
Purim is here in the Land of Israel! We've already begun to celebrate everywhere, and this evening (Thursday) begins Shushan Purim in Jerusalem. We've got double the pleasure, double the fun - and we're giving you double-double awesome Purim Torahs and music to accompany you through your celebration!
We read the Megilla last night in Bat Ayin with Reb Yankala Shemesh, and you can listen to the Megilla reading by CLICKING HERE TO DOWNLOAD AND LISTEN. Remember as far as halacha goes it doesn't make you "yotzi" the Mitzvah to hear it this way, but it IS fun and really wonderful to hear on the radio. For a Megilla reading near you - wherever you are - consult your local rabbis or check out the nearest CHABAD center near you (Chabad is everywhere and they will surely hook you up!)
In Jerusalem we're starting Purim tonight - Steve will be with you on the radio to add that special something-something to your Purim - and we'll be having our Seuda (festive meal) tomorrow, giving gift baskets of cooked foods to friends, giving charity, wearing masks and becoming unmasked.
What's concealed will be revealed.
What's revealed will be illuminated.
... and before you know it, SHABBOS IS COMING! SHABBOS IS COMING!
Yep, it never stops!
Good Purim from all of us here at Radio Free Nachlaot!

Mikey Likes It
Mikey Pauker will be our Special Guest tonight on Radio Free Nachlaot's "Sunday Night Live" show - 8pm Jerusalem time. It'll be a very special show for a number of reasons - A) because our special guest is an up-and-coming artist whom we feel you're going to be hearing a LOT more from (and we'd like to say "we discovered him" at least in Jerusalem!), B) because Steve and Lorelai will actually be in the same place at the same time tonight, back in Undisclosed Studio B together at last, and C) because tonight is "moetzi" Steve's 60th birthday and we're still feeling the afterglow from the live broadcast of the SOULFARM concert from Jerusalem's Yellow Submarine that we did Saturday night (in fact, have we even slept yet???).
A, B, C ... it's easy as one two three.
8pm Jerusalem time tonight - We're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!
Sunday Night Live with Steve and Lorelai, and special guest
Mikey Pauker - don't miss the show!

SNOW DAY IN JERUSALEM!
Hey friends, it's one of those rare and wonderful events - a real "SNOW DAY" here in Jerusalem! The white and flaky stuff is coming down upon us - and Israelis are smiling and throwing snowballs at each other and enterprising children are building snowmen and charging 5NIS to take a picture with them (the "combina" exists even on a snow day!) but - we're happy! L'kavod Snow Day / Erev Shabbos, we're going to play THE WIZARD OF OZ on our "Not For Kids Only Children's Hour" starting around 1:30pm today and then we'll be slip-slidin' into Shabbos (literally!) ... keep high and dry, enjoy the white stuff - Good Shabbos, good Shabbos!!!
